Bearing fruit


SCRIPTURE:

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
                                                                                          – Galatians 5:22-23

Look at the list of the fruit of the Spirit.
Take a few moments to consider each of these attributes.

Which one are you in need of this moment?

Cutting 'fruit'

Invitation:
Take a piece of paper and cut out a leaf (or a piece of fruit!).

Write the fruit of the Spirit on it that you are asking God to produce in you.

Say it aloud as you hang it on the tree.

Look at the tree and the fruit others have posted or will post.  Give thanks to God for these gifts of the Spirit.

Take a moment to bask in God’s presence.

Prayer:

God, I long to know you more.
I worship you as Three in One – Father, Son, Spirit.


May my life take root deep in you, and may the leaves and fruit that grow bring shade, healing, and life to all.

What I meant to say…

“What the text says now matters more than what the author meant to say…” – Paul Ricouer “Really?” you might ask. I think most of us have a hard time believing that. How could anyone make such a statement? Surely the most important thing is what the author meant to say when he wrote it.

Opening Our Doors

A church in west Michigan recently decided that it is no longer a "church," but a religious community open to all beliefs. Many are responding by declaring this a tragedy. Now there is certainly something to mourn when a community seems to turn its back on its original tradition. Yet I wonder if the common reaction that this is a horrible and tragic event is the only way to view this. Perhaps our own response is in some ways the tragic one.

Pub Theology Recap March 24

Is God’s forgiveness unconditional? Is it for everyone? The first response: "Yes it is conditional. I grew up in the church hearing that if God forgives you, you've got to start living differently, otherwise it obviously didn't make any difference, and in that case - you're not really forgiven." Next response: "What about Jesus saying that we need to forgive people seventy times seven? Doesn't that imply that forgiveness is unlimited, and therefore unconditional?"

Highlights from Funding the Missional Church

Attending a conference in Minneapolis entitled, "Funding the Missional Church" It's been inspiring, challenging and very fun. Great to meet so many people who are seeking to create unique, engaging communities of Christ followers. Here's a few highlights:

We began the night with a toast to Saint Patrick, that giver of good tidings and slayer of snakes: Saint Patrick was a gentleman, who through strategy and stealth Drove all the snakes from Ireland, here's a drink to his health!
 But not too many drinks, lest we lose ourselves and then
 Forget the good Saint Patrick, and see them snakes again!
